It’s not often that the Wii version of a sports game transcends its more powerful 360 and PS3 brethren, but it seems the inclusion of Wii MotionPlus provides Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 with just the edge needed to make its gameplay feel more than a cynical expansion.

MotionPlus doesn’t alter the game on a fundamental level – certainly not to the same degree as Grand Slam Tennis – but the interpretation of the speed, strength and power of your swing is accurate enough to warrant a commendation of the Wii version of Tiger Woods as the most realistic golfing simulation available.

It’s all about measuring your backswing and follow-through, and although this can be quite difficult at first, a few hours spent on the course will see you scoring birdies with a greater sense of feedback and reward than the series has managed previously.

The most obvious design variation afforded by MotionPlus is the ability to alter the direction of your club head. Twisting the Wii Remote to face either the left of right allows you to manually adjust the amount draw of fade you place on the ball, and ultimately gives more precision in your placement.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game seem to have reached the logical maximum: a brick wall where any new features sre incidental at best, offensive to the faithful at worst. Thanks to the graceful implementation of Wii MotionPlus, EA has managed to break through that wall, altering the game significantly without straying from its roots.
